This 12-hour course borrows from themes and best practices in supervision of spiritual direction professionals. While spiritual direction supervision and clinical supervision of mental health practitioners are separate disciplines with different scopes of practice, the course focuses on the effective approaches from spiritual direction supervision that can be readily applied to clinical supervision.
Course Description
Case conceptualization is at the core of this learning process, with the conceptualization viewed from a spiritual lens. Both implicit and explicit spiritual content will be discussed, and the supervisor will gain an understanding of when to widen or narrow the lens while working with supervisees and clients.
Participants must be able to give a brief written summary of 10 client sessions to reflect upon for the instrospective and experiential writing exercises. The course is self-paced and online and instructor feedback is given after each completed lesson.
Course Facilitator
DeeAnna Merz Nagel, course facilitator, is a licensed mental health counselor, certified clinical supervisor and certified coach. She holds a doctorate in multi-faith spiritual direction. She combines her clinical supervision skills with her skills as a spiritual coach and spiritual director to bring new light to clinical supervision training. DeeAnna describes her approach as progressive, inter-spiritual, and holistically based.
