What is a Board Certified Coach?
The Board Certified Coach (BCC) credential is a mark of distinction for credential holders and a source of credibility for their clients. A BCC has met professional coaching competency standards established by CCE and subject matter experts.
The BCC certification demonstrates to the public that a professional coach has:
- Met educational and training requirements
- Passed a psychometrically sound coach-specific examination
- Obtained experience in the field of coaching
- Professional peer references
- Accountability to an enforceable ethics code
- Commitment to continuing education
The achievement of the Board Certified Coach credential solidifies the professional identity of the coach. The BCC credential is attractive to professionals who would like to provide independent third-party verification that they have achieved certain coaching competency standards.
What background and training is needed to become a BCC?
Different backgrounds and degrees require certain training requirements. The full set of requirements and the BCC application can be found here. My course is a 200-hour course with 40 hours approved through CCE for National Certified Counselors (NCCs) or Fully State-Licensed Counselors or Applicants holding a master’s degree or higher in counseling.
I am not a counselor. Can I take your course and become a BCC?
No because my course is only approved for the hours needed if the applicant is an NCC, licensed, and/or holds a master’s degree or higher in counseling. But if you like what you see, I do offer self-directed courses through The Institute for Life Coach Training and their program is approved for individuals with varying backgrounds who may require more than 30 hours.
So, if I am a counselor and I only need 30 hours of training, why would I take your 200-hour course?
Good question! Most people who take my 200-hour course have a desire to work intuitively, integrating complementary and alternative modalities into their work as a wellness coach. And the 200-hour course prepares you to take the Certified International Health Coach exam through the International Association of Health Coaches , placing you in the company of other health coach professionals around the globe from schools such as the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. My course is self-paced and you receive ongoing feedback from me. You have a year to complete as well!
